A family visit to Bluefields and Rama Cay

Ervin Hodgson is a native of the island and a teacher at the school. He is fluent in spanish and english and is a very good translator. Ervin has a good understanding of the history of his people and the issues they face. His family has a simple, sturdy boat with a good outboard motor that can transport you safely to and from the island or to explore the region around Rama Cay. Ervin met us at the airport, showed us around Bluefields and he and his brother took us to visit Rama Cay. Our family had a wonderful time visiting with several families on the island. On another day they showed us around the region around the island, the mangrove shores, Kukra River, and Mission Cay, all within a few hundred meters of Rama Cay. There are many things to explore in that area and Ervin, his family, and many others are very hospitable. If you would like to visit and explore the area just send Ervin an email (give him a few days to read it and answer) and tell him what you would like to do.

The first solar oven arrives on Rama Cay.

Ervin Hodgson cooks a pot of soup and demonstrates the cooking power of the sun to curious onlookers (www.sunoven.com).
